Whether you want to go rafting or sip on a glass of high-altitude wine, surrender to the country’s clearest sky, or wear out your boots hiking up the mountains, Barreal is the place. A SKY FULL OF STARS
Barreal is home to two world-renowned astronomical complexes within El Leoncito National Park, offering guided night visits led by expert astronomers. Rated for having one of Argentina’s most starry skies, the park also boasts the country’s largest diameter telescope.
LANDSAILING
It’s like land windsurfing, in wind-powered land yachts. The destination: Pampa El Leoncito, a clear plain 12 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide at the foot of the Andes, where the wind reaches (and sometimes exceeds) 80 km/h.
HIKING
There are walks for all preferences and skill levels. Cerros Colorados, Arroyo el Fiero, Laguna Blanca, and Arroyo Turquesa are some of the hikes to do on foot, preferably with sherpas (or portadores) and with the appropriate equipment. Just reading their names gives you an idea of the landscapes they offer.
HORSEBACK RIDING
It’s another way to immerse yourself in the landscape. Horses reach heights inaccessible to humans and travel paths that offer new perspectives of Barreal’s remarkable scenery.
ALTITUDE WINES
Due to its optimal thermal amplitude and altitude, the Calingasta Valley is ideal for growing wine grapes. The National Institute of Viticulture has awarded Geographic Indication (GI) status to three zones in Calingasta, highlighting the quality of local wines. You can taste them on-site at their wineries.
RAFTING
Los Patos is a snowmelt river ideal for boat rides of varying difficulty levels, but suitable for the whole family. Set against the backdrop of the Andes Mountains, the adventure pushes senses to the extreme.
WILDLIFE
Guanacos, foxes, maras, capybaras, condors, and crested eagles are just some of the animals you can find in El Leoncito National Park, which features viewpoints and trails for trekking enthusiasts.

Cuisine
Chef Dante Liporace designed a menu that portrays the flavors of the mountains. His cuisine pays homage to the products of Barreal: goat cheese, fruits, regional jams, aromatic herbs, and other local flavors. There are revisited versions of classic recipes, such as “punta de espalda”, dried pasta with tomatillo sauce, pachata with ketchup, and young goat with gnocchi.
